Wake the kids! Call the neighbors! Kindergartners are blogging! Okay, the kid’s talking and some enthusiastic adult is frantically typing. Apple Computers still have a huge presence in schools and my son’s elementary school is no different. Thanks to a simple and safe blogging program called iblog and a .Mac account, creating this simple blog was a snap.

What are WE blogging? Well, it’s science fair time around the country and Jack came home from kindergarten wanting to do a project. We landed an idea and decided to blog his “journey” for the week. Jack’s Science Fair Blog is filled with pictures and Quicktime videos showing his daily progress. We created the blog on Saturday February 12th and he told his teacher about it the following Monday. When the principal found out about Jack’s Blog, he contacted the IT specialist at the school district who then sent out notice to all of the elementary schools in the district. (Doesn’t Seth Godin call this an ideavirus?) Remember, teachers are not necessarily considered to be bloggers… well not yet.

Yes, I’m having fun teaching my son how to share an idea with other, and he’s getting some really fun feedback from parents and teachers who are visiting the blog to see how his growing alligator project is doing. Based on the response so far, I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing a few more elementary teachers in the blogosphere.
