Win 25 Gallons of Green Slime – It’s as Easy as Following @HalloweenSci on Twitter

Slime-Contest-25-Gallons

This contest has ended. Thank you for entering. Congratulations to our winner, Melitsa @playactivities!

You’ll be the hit of the party if you win 25 gallons of Spangler Slime – that’s 95 liters for those mad scientists who love the metric system. This isn’t some pre-made slime… no… it’s Spangler’s special PVA formulation for concocting the perfect batch of slime! If you’re the lucky winner, you’ll receive 25 gallons of green Slime Goo (the best PVA – polyvinyl alcohol) solution and Slime Cross-Linker (the linking agent that hooks it all together when you mix the two liquids). You mix it… you make it… and people go wild for slime.

Boom Splat Kablooey – Steve Spangler Science and Klutz Team Up to Create a New Experience for Kids

boom-splat-kablooey-8-18-09Little known fact… I love to juggle. Better known fact… I’m not that good, but that’s not a reflection on my teacher – a great book called Juggling for the Complete Klutz. This was my introduction to Klutz Press some 30 years ago – an amazing company with a vision for really innovative product. So, when I was invited by the editors of Klutz to be a contributor to their latest book – Boom Splat Kablooey – I was thrilled. The book is scheduled for release in the next few weeks… but readers of this blog can purchase a copy from our store now.

Boom Splat Kablooey author Pat Murphy wanted to use our Geyser Tube toy as a trigger device for the perfect soda geyser, but she wanted young readers to experiment beyond the popular MENTOS® version. What if you want to test other materials like rock salt, sand, pepper, marbles… whatever? That’s the question that Klutz posed to us when we began development on the Geyser Tube Depth Charge. After lots of testing and lots of geysers going off,

Congratulations to Our UV Skinz Contest Winner

We really enjoyed teaming with UVSkinz.com to give away some of our Color Changing UV Beads and create awareness about the importance of protecting yourself from the sun. We are so excited to introduce the winner of the UV Bead give-away… Corinna Lyons-Revell. Here’s a little bit about Corinna and her daughter, who are very excited to play with their new beads.

I live in the Midwest and work from my home as a medical transcriptionist
and have a small business as a scrapbooker. I have a husband and
9-year-old daughter (whose favorite subject is science!). We lost a friend
about 5 years ago to melanoma and my hubby’s sister has had skin cancer,
so I have taught my daughter to be VERY aware of the need for sunscreen.
We don’t go anywhere without it, not even on cloudy days. She even nags
her daddy about it! I know my daughter is going to enjoy trying out these
beads and seeing how they work and then showing all of her friends to teach
them about sunscreen importance also. Thanks for the great contest! And
thanks to Steve for bringing awesome science knowledge to children!

Customer Captures Amazing Moon Pictures with Reflector Telescope

I love getting feedback from our customers on the products that they have purchased from us and the experiments that they have tried. I love it even more when our customers use the materials we have provided and take them to an entirely new level. That’s why I was so excited to read an email I received from Steve Kuzmich.

Steve purchased our Omega Reflector Telescope to use to look at the Moon… then he hooked up his Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS and took some amazing pictures of the Moon. We always knew that the Omega telescope was an awesome product, but I had no idea what you could do with a telescope, a camera and a tri-pod.

For you techies out there, here are the specs that Steve was using to capture these amazing photos…

  • Make – Canon
  • Model – PowerShot SD1100 IS
  • Color Space – RGB
  • FNumber – 2.8
  • Exposure Time – 1/60
  • Focal Length – 6.2
  • Tri-Pod – Sun Park
  • Read the telescope specs
