Dancing Raisins – Chemistry You Can Eat

It’s true that I have some favorite experiments that seem to make it into most of my workshops and presentations.  It’s always nice to have a few “stand-bys” in my back pocket that I can use in case of a science emergency.  But, it’s even more fun to come up with new variations for the standards.  I was excited to introduce the Dancing Raisins experiment on  9News… with some fun new twists.  Watch the video to check out the fun.

I have to be honest. I haven’t watched the video in this post because it takes too long to load or stream or whatever you call it. LOL.

So what I did was go to YouTube and checked out this dancing raising thing and I have to say I’m really impressed. I love the way you combined the lentils and some raisins. That actually made the best “dance”. Looking forward to more stuff like this.

My kids and I did the dancing raisins experiment with some Sprite. They simply loved the way they bounced up and down. Then we learned a bit about the science and explored how the carbon dioxide gas, density, and buoyancy all play together to make it happen. We are loving doing these experiments because they are not only fun to see but teach a good lesson as well. We a doing these instead of watching tv. Thanks.
