I brought the Geyser Car to our Thanksgiving dinner. It served as our after dinner entertainment.

Local mom and science fan, Vicki Soriano, knows how to get her kids and all of the families in her neighborhood excited about back to school time. They hold a Back to School Bash to say goodbye to summer and get back into learning mode.
How does a party stimulate the mind ? It’s simple, this block party is all about learning and engaging through educational games and activities.
Vicki is an oncology nurse who not only gets everyone excited about school, but she also raises money for charity. The neighbors donate money to help Brent’s Place, a place that supports families and children battling cancer. This year, she raised $800 – the largest amount collected in the 5 years that she has been throwing the bash.
This is no simple block party. Vicki made school bus cutouts and decorates the street with a back to school theme.

Ted Allen, host of Food Detectives on the Food Network, featured a segment using our Mentos Geyser Tube toy as a trigger device for their exploding soda segment. The producers did a nice job of explaining the science behind the eruption and even shared a cool variation of slowly lowering several Mentos into the bottle using a piece of wire. The demo showed why the Mentos have to quickly sink to the bottom of the bottle if you want to get a huge eruption. In their explanation, the microbiologist expert said that diet soda is used because the aspartame weakened the surface tension of the liquid which aided in the eruption. However, we know from experimentation that regular soda works well, too. Does regular sugar also weaken the surface tension? Dropping Mentos into plain seltzer water produces almost no eruption. Does this suggest that the surface tension of the liquid is higher in the plain seltzer water than it is in regular soda or diet soda?
You see… that’s why the Mentos soda geyser keeps showing up time and time

Robert Woodhead is always looking for a new challenge with his Casio EX-F1 camera. I found Robert’s first Mentos Geyser reaction on Gizmodo using just a roll of Mentos and a bottle Diet Coke. Watching the reaction at 1200 fps is truly amazing. Robert found a willing subject (the kid running from the exploding bottle) and sent us this video. Huge thanks!
If you haven’t seen the Mentos Slow Motion Video from the people at Perfetti Van Melle, watch it! At 2,000 frames per second, you can actually see the carbon dioxide bubbles forming on the nucleation sites.
