Steve Graces the Cover of Speaker Magazine

By Blog Editor Susan Wells

We can now add Cover Model to the list of accomplishments that Steve Spangler has achieved. He is on the cover of Speaker Magazine this month as The New Mr. Wizard.

Steve has been a member of the National Speaker Association for years and has been a keynote speaker at its conferences.

The article chronicles Steve’s rise to success from performing at church and birthday party events on the weekends with his parents, to doing over 4,500 school assemblies, to toy designer and teacher trainer.

Magic and speaking have always been an important part of Steve’s life and career. Pick up a copy of Speaker Magazine and find out how he turned a few videos on a fledgling website called YouTube into a paid gig on their new network.

Another interesting fact about Steve – he knows how to surround himself with talent. Our own Shawn Campbell took the photo for the cover.

Staff Spotlight on Lisa Brooks – Yes She IS Related to Steve

Q: Tell us a little about who you are…
A: Who knew this would be such a hard question to answer.  I guess I can start by saying I’m one of the longest lasting employees with the company and sister-in-law to Mr. Spangler.  I started doing part time projects when I was 14 years old when Steve and Renee first started the company.  I’d mail out fliers to elementary schools about Steve’s programs.  I can honestly say I wasn’t great at it since I was a typical teenager and didn’t have the motivation I do now.  For some lucky reason, Steve and Renee kept me on and hired me full time back in ’97.  We’ve been inseparable ever since!

Q: What do you do at Steve Spangler Science?
A: I handle accounts payable and receivable, as well as conference planning.  If you’ve seen our booth at a conference, it’s because of yours truly.  I book the travel, make sure the product arrives safely, print lots and lots of maps and do everything just shy of planning their bathroom breaks…although, sometimes I plan that too.

Q: What

Flushing School Wins Siemens Ultimate Cool School Science Day with Steve Spangler

The science demo trunks are packed, soda geysers secured, and the trash can of science is ready for a journey to Flushing, New York. I’m excited to be invited by Discovery Education and Siemens Science Day to help celebrate the success of the students and teachers at P.S. 201 Q The Discovery School for Inquiry and Research. As part of the Siemens Science Day experience, teachers had the opportunity to win an Ultimate Cool School Assembly… that’s my part of the celebration. In addition to presenting two school assemblies for the students, I’m also honored to get the opportunity to share some best practice ideas and science teaching strategies with the teachers during a special hands-on science training scheduled on the same day. Thanks to the generosity of Siemens and Discovery Education, each student will receive a take-home science experiment to help share what they learned during the Siemens Science Day (shhhhh… that part is a secret).

UPDATE – Flushing, New York – June 4, 2010
We had a blast with the students and teachers at P.S. 201 Q. The teams from the Siemens Foundation and Discovery

Surprise School Assembly Teaches Elementary Students How to Make it Snow at Home!

When you spend your days processing orders, building cool products and shipping out hundreds of boxes, it’s easy to lose track of the people (young and old) who are playing with all of these science toys. Today, our staff got the opportunity to visit students at East Elementary in Littleton, Colorado to share some of their own hands-on science fun. Earlier in the week, I pulled our staff from the customer service department and everyone in our distribution center to get a quick lesson in how to create an instant snow blizzard in the hands of every student in the school.

Then it was off to the school early this morning with lots of water pitchers, plastic cups and almost a hundred pounds of Insta-Snow powder to share with the students. I also packed up a few of my favorite science demonstrations to kick things off at the morning all-school assembly. There’s just nothing that compares to the feeling you get when you see real wonder in the eyes of children. The kids at East Elementary shared the best gift ever – wonder.
