For Steve’s Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes book signing, we shot off Mentos and Diet Coke Geysers in the parking lot and had a liquid Nitrogen parade at the Tattered Cover Book Store in Highlands Ranch. We have more experiments and surprises for the Fire Bubbles and Exploding Toothpaste book signing this week. Who knows what we will do.
The Tattered Cover is used to authors coming in, reading an excerpt from their book and signing a few books. With Steve Spangler book signings, they must check the smoke detectors, warn the fire department and declare a “wet” and “dry” zone (no soda geysers or other science eruptions near the book shelves).
Come to the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch this Wednesday, December 7th at 6 p.m. and see what Steve Spangler and crew will do this time. This will be a kid-friendly book signing like no other. We will have special hands-on activities that are sure to keep the kids engaged and you smiling.
If you thought Steve Spangler’s book Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes pushed the limits of your inner mad scientist, Fire Bubbles and Exploding Toothpaste, the second volume of 25 new, extraordinary home experiments is guaranteed to knock your socks off! Seriously… your socks are going to fly across the room. The materials are easy to find and the directions are simple to follow, but the end result is guaranteed to produce lots of ooohs & ahhhs.
This book has over 200 beautiful color photographs that accompany step-by-step instructions for science experiments to do at home and in the classroom. It also has a special teachers-only section full of science demonstrations for the classroom.
Steve has performed some of the experiments in the book with Ellen DeGeneres on her television show. She is proud to be a part of this science experiment book.
Here is a sample of the experiments included in the book…
Floating Bowling Balls
Pop Bottle Music
Bouncing Smoke Bubbles
Walking on Eggshells
Balancing Nails
Fireproof Balloon
Skateboard Rocket Car
For all science fans in the Denver metro area – Steve is holding a book signing at the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch on Wednesday, December 7th
Steve makes his 12th appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show as Ellen’s Science Guy. The show airs today, so check local listings for exact times (it airs at 3pm in Denver on Channel 9) or click the link below to watch a sneak preview of the segment on the Ellen Show’s website.
Steve showed Ellen how to release the sugar energy in gummy bear candy (you will be surprised at how much energy there is in a gummy bear). He also demonstrated the clean burning power of ethanol and then turned an audience member into a human conductor of electricity.
Ellen helped Steve celebrate the launch of his second book, Fire Bubbles and Exploding Toothpaste. Ellen encouraged Steve to share his experiments in a book and she appears in it. She gave each audience member a copy of the book. The Ellen DeGeneres Show is giving away a copy of Steve’s book – visit their website to enter the Fire Bubbles and Exploding Toothpaste giveaway.
Let’s start with a huge thanks to Ellen DeGeneres and everyone at the Ellen Show for inviting me back for more fun and a few science experiments. It was a great show with an extra level of buzz backstage because Matt Damon was Ellen’s special guest. I was especially excited to get to share my latest discovery with Ellen and her viewers – the biggest air cannon I’ve ever seen! Take a look…
On behalf of the entire Spangler Science team, we want to thank our friends at Colle+McVoy for allowing us to use their baby. The big air cannon was originally created by the very creative people at this ad agency to help celebrate a milestone for one of their clients, Erbert & Gerbert. What you didn’t see in the video above is all of the other vortex rings we shot into the audience using the big air cannon. The audience

Halloween Science and the Ellen DeGeneres Show seem to go hand in hand. I was excited to get the call from Ellen’s producers last week with an invite to be a guest on her ever-popular Halloween Show. We’ve practiced and practiced our new demos for the show (no, we can’t spill the beans right now), and I think we’ll have a few surprises for her and the studio audience. Of course, everyone tunes in to see Ellen’s costume. My only hope is that it’s not flammable… and that’s all I can say.
